On Wednesday 9th February Harrison & Hetherington had 1006 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 500 Store Cattle, 232 store bulls and weanlings and 280 calves.

STORE CATTLE – Once again over 500 strong Store cattle forward at the Borderway weekly sale whereby the bar has been set even higher with an unbelievable store cattle trade seen throughout the day for all shapes and sizes.  Topping the sale overall was JTC Excavations, Halifax with a British Blue cross steer achieving £1940.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth topped Charolais crosses to £1780 and a Limousin cross to £1680.  Aberdeen Angus to £1460 from Messrs Scott, Carrick Dean, Maryport and Herefords from Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe to £1400.

Heifers seen a day’s top of £1650 and £1640 for Limousin   crosses from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.  British Blues to £1510 from JTC Excavations, Halifax.  Parthenais to £1390 from Messrs Bradley, Marina, Maryport.  Charolais to £1390 from Messrs Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Wigton and finally Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1360 from Messrs Holliday, Dobcross Hall, Carlisle.

WEANED CATTLE: A larger entry of weaned cattle were forward at Borderway with 232 forward.  All classes of cattle were much dearer on the week with some cattle being £100 dearer on the week.  The bulls started the sale on a high topping at £1290 for a Limousin cross form Messrs Gilhespy, Tedcastle Farm, Haydon Bridge with others selling for £1260 from Mark Jefferson Town Head Farm, Houghton, and £1250 from Hodgson & Peart, Far Howe, Mungrisedale.

All clean cattle sold exceptionally well once again following the trend with a price jump.  Steers topped at £1120 for a Limousin x steer from Messrs Armstrong, Shankfield Head, Heathersgill and heifers topped at £1180 for a Charolais Heifer from Kate Evans, Wheyrigg House, Wigton.

A quality run of 9 month old Limousin heifers from Messrs Robinson, Hawksteel Farm, Hexham sold for £1060 and £1050.

More weaned cattle are required every week in the weaner ring with a strongest ringside of buyers for all types of cattle.
