Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 16th February Harrison & Hetherington had 1239 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 422 Store Cattle, 223 store bulls and weanlings, 306 calves, 94 Dairy cattle in the monthly Border & Lakeland Club sale and 194 Holstein Cattle in the Tarnhill Dispersal on behalf of Ewbank Farming, Penrith.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale an entry of 422 store cattle forward.  A much plainer show of cattle this week were met with plenty demand ringside.  Over 80% of the sale this week would be dairy bred with less finish on those forward.  Averages of £1100 for heifers and £1145 for bullocks show a very respectable return with cattle from £480 to £1700 represented.

Leading the way at £1700 was an exceptional British Blue cross heifer shown by Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton.  Bullocks to £1650 for a cracking Charolais from Messrs Watret, Burnside, Annan.  Native cattle to £1440 for Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Robinson, Rowell, Kendal.  Dairy bullocks to £1260 for Friesians from Messrs Johnston, Halfway House, Hexham.

WEANED CATTLE: An endless amount of buyers flooded Ring 4 once again eager for cattle.  Bulls topped at £1580 for a Pure Limousin from Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell.  Messrs Johnston, Orton Hall also had Limousins bulls up to £1240. Simmental bulls were up to £1075 from Messrs Goldie, Newbiemains.

Bullocks also sold brilliantly with a great run of Charolais from Messrs Thornton, Dyke Croft making £1000, £970 and £965.  British blue bullocks sold to £970 from GH & Rushton, Nirvana.  Limousin heifers sold to £1100 from L Vernon, Tathhill.  Others sold to £1010 from Messrs Todd, The Craggs,  Simmentals heifers sold £1060 again from Messrs Goldie, Newbiemains.
