On Wednesday 23rd February Harrison & Hetherington had 1017 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 400 Store Cattle, 221 store bulls and weanlings, and 396 calves. 

STORE CATTLE – A smaller entry of 400 store cattle forward seeing both quality and trade up on the week with an overall average of £1201.48.  Topping the sale at £1760 were two Limousins cross heifers from messrs Wigham, Cold Shields, Haltwhistle.  Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan sold a further two to £1710 and £1700.  Charolais crosses to £1720 from Messrs Watret, Burnside, Annan and other to £1540 from Messrs Hiddleston, Newmains Dumfries, Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1530 from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth and British Blue crosses from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith to £1490.  Steers saw a day’s top of £1690 for Limousin from Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown and £1680 from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle who also sold Blonde crosses to £1495.  Charolais to £1480 from Messrs Watret, Burnside, Annan and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1460 for Messrs Palmer, Longrigg Thorn.  Black and whites sold to £1265 for British Friesian from Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park, Wigton and £1260 from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna.

Bull: Limousin £1260 Cawfields

WEANED CATTLE: Once again weaned cattle sold exceptionally well in Ring 4 with 221 cattle forward and all breeds and sizes sold very well with some cattle maybe sharper on the week.  Topping the day’s trade was a Limousin bull from Messrs Dent, Beamwham, Hexham at £1290.

Good shapely type bulls sold exceptionally well with young Limousin x bulls selling over £1100 regularly

An exceptional run of cattle were forward from Messrs Oliver, Cawfields, Haltwhistle which topped the steers at £1210 with others steers selling for £1190, £1180 from the same home who also topped heifers at £1010 for a pair of Limousin x.  The same price was achieved by Messrs Greenbank, The Faulds, Caldbeck for a Charolais x heifer.

A very strong ringside of buyers were forward throughout the sale ensuring all vendors leaving highly delighted with many more required on a weekly basis.
