Clywedog Holstein Herd Disperses In Style

As far as well managed herds go the Clywedog pedigree Holstein herd ranks among the very best.  This special herd was dispersed over two days at Old Llwyn Farm near Wrexham with buyers travelling from across the UK and Ireland to attend this special event.  The herd had been managed and developed by bothers Rhys and Huw Jones who had focused on breeding wide powerful Holstein cows that had an incredible ability to produce large volumes of milk.

Day one comprised all the milking herd and young calves, with the trade topping at 4,000gns for an outstanding two year old; with the average for milking heifers coming to £1930.  Day two comprised all the youngstock including the In Calf heifers, bulling and yearling heifers with trade topping at 3,800gns for a yearling heifer with the average for in calf and short bred heifers coming to just over £1500. 

Clywedog Fuel Roxy topped the trade at 4,000gns going to Cyril and Martin Millar from N. Ireland.  She was sired by Melarry Fuel and had recently classified Very Good 86 in her first lactation completing fourteen generations of Excellent or Very Goods from the Roxy cow family.  Her fourth dam was Denmire Burns Roxy EX94 who produced over 130 ton of milk in her lifetime.  Mr Millar also purchased Clywedog Fuel Bevin for 2,800gns.  She had recently classified Vey Good 86 and is the eleventh generation of animals to classify in the top grades going back to Calbrett Blackstar Bevin EX91.


Clywedog Fuel Roxy - 4000gns

The heifer calves topped at 1,100gns for a daughter of the top seller.  She was sired by Pine-Tree Pursuit and was purchased by Mr Bradley from near Newry in N. Ireland.

Selling for 3,200gns was Clywedog Lambda Ruby who was purchased by Mr Allen from near Richhill in N. Ireland.  She was a tremendous udder daughter of Lambda, she was recently calved and was bred from thirteen generations of Excellent or Very Good dams from a special line of the Ruby cow family from the Warnelview herd.

Cows topped at 2,700gns for a Very Good 87 Stantons Adorable daughter who was bred from an Excellent 93 dam who gave over 15000kgs as a five year old.  She was purchased by Mr Dodd from near Chester.

Day two was well supported by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable crowd of buyers with the trade topping at 3,800gns again for a member of the Roxy cow family.  Clywedog Lighthouse Roxy was purchased by Miss Walton from near Wrexham, she was bred from the VG88 Meridian dam who was the granddam of the high seller from day one.  After the dam all the remaining dams were classified Excellent.

In Calf and recently bred heifers sold well with a number topping at 1,900gns the first being Clywedog Fuel Lientje and was due in April to Vogue A2P2, her dam was a Very Good Crackholm Fever daughter who gave over 13000kgs at 4.60% butterfat.
