Borderway Calf Sale

On Wednesday 2^nd March Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of calves with a total of 373 forward.  On the whole calves of all classes would be sharper with stronger calves seeing the biggest lift.  However, New Zealand system bred calves and young calves wouldn’t see quite the lift on comparison.

Topping today’s bull class was in the British Blues at £540 twice for two thumping calves from Messrs McKie, Wedholme Hill.  Angus were a good trade also at £505 from first time vendors, Messrs Sloan, Panlands, who’s consignment of 10 calves averaged £452.50.  Messrs Irving, Brunthill had Holstein Friesian up to £235 twice and Limousin bulls were up to £500 from the same home. Heifers were a big trade today at £440 from Messrs Fox, Windy Hill for a cracking Limousin heifer closely followed by Messrs Simpson, Orchard Farm at £420.  Messrs McKie, Wedholme Hill and Messrs Paul, Greigsland had British Blue heifers up to £470.  £340 was top price Angus from C Horsley Ltd, Whitrigg Grange for a sweet Heifer.  Calves were well bid for today and more required for our weekly sales.
