On Wednesday 2nd March Harrison & Hetherington had 1318 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 425 Store Cattle, 409 store bulls and weanlings, 375 calves, and 109 Dairy Cattle in the Monthly Border Dairy Day 

STORE CATTLE – On Wednesday at their weekly sale 425 Store Cattle forward  All classes sold to extreme this week with Dairy bred Blue cattle seeing astronomical returns.  No real fleshy forward types this week but anything showing an ounce of strength was absolutely flying.  The sale topped this week at £1640 for a great Limousin x bullock from Messrs G Batey, High Knells, Houghton.  Native cattle peaked at £1620 for a Beef Shorthorn bullock from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall Farm.  Heifers reached £1560 again for a cracking Limousin from Messrs Bettie, Woodfield, Annan.  More required for next week.

WEANED CATTLE: Good news travels fast, an entry of 419 weaned cattle and bulls were forward with all qualities and breeds being very good to sell. The trade is drawing a larger turnout of stock and buyers to the market meaning a 50% increase in stock on the year.

The sale included the dispersal of cows & calves on behalf of DM Morrow, The Paddock, Silloth which saw all units selling beyond expectations with a top price of £1680 for a British Blue cross with a Charolais cross calf at foot.

Bulls once again sold very well with a top price of £1330 being achieved by Messrs Watson, Sanders Close, Slaggyford.

All classes of clean cattle sold very well with steers topping at £1140 for an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Hall, Riding Hill, Stanley with a close runner up being a Fleckvieh at £1130 from Messrs Errington, Lowther Low Moor, Penrith.

Heifers topped up at £1160 for a pair of Limousins from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside, Lockerbie, followed by another pair at £1155.

All classes of stock are required on a weekly basis to fulfil the ever increasing demand.
