Kirkby Stephen 'Kirkby Classic' Show & Sale of Store Cattle

Kirkby Stephen, Faraday Road, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QL

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Annual Kirkby Classic Prize Show and Sale of store and potential show cattle when 416 cattle were on offer.

Topping the sale at £5,200 was 9 month old pure Limousin heifer sired by Procters Pochettino from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby which was unshown and sold to Messrs Jackson, Maulscastle Farm, Annan.


Top price

The Kirkby Classic was expertly judged by Mr Aled Roberts, Garnedd Isaf, Gwynedd, whom we express great appreciation too for carrying out the judging with great expertise.


Champion & Reserve – John Smith-Jackson holding the champion, Aled Roberts(Judge), Gillian Sedgley holding the reserve champion, Stephen Huck for WE Jameson & Son (Sponsors), James & Jane Bainbridge of BB Dairy (Sponsors).

Mr Roberts awarded the overall championship to a Hightown Jako sired 10 month old Limousin Heifer shown by Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown and went on to sell for £3,500 to Messrs Hyslop, Settle.


Champion – John Smith-Jackson

The overall reserve championship was awarded to the second prized haltered Limousin heifer, a 9 month old sired by Gallaber Paddy from Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon which sold for £4,800 to Messrs Wynne, Derbyshire.


Reserve Champion – Gillian Sedgley

British Blue heifers sold to £3,800 9 month old from Messrs Sedgley, Barbon selling to Messrs Sutcliffe, Driffield

Bullocks topped at £2,800 for a 6 month old Limousin cross from Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, which went on to sell to Messes Ireland, Ayrshire.

Next selling to £2,500 was a 9 month old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Marston, selling to Messrs Hutchinson, Bail Hill.

Also selling to £2,400 was another 9 month old Limousin heifer this time shown by Messrs Chappelhow & Morley, Penrith selling to Messrs Dickinson, Derbyshire.

The overall average for show cattle for bullocks and heifers of £2008.80 was achieved.

The sale average for store heifers was £1288.45 (+ £133.17 on the year), The bullocks averaged £1204.63 (+ £107.53 on the year), with an overall average of £1,246.02 being achieved with the cattle being predominantly 7 to 12 month old.
