On Wednesday 9th March Harrison & Hetherington had 1247 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 500 Store Cattle, 247 store bulls and weanlings, and 500 calves.
STORE CATTLE – Yet another fantastic entry of over 500 Strong Store cattle forward at the UK leading livestock sales centre seeing trade defy all odds as a fantastic trade witnessed throughout the day’s sale. Topping the day were first time vendors Messrs Forster, Haining House, Brampton selling a Limousin cross steer to £1740. Simmentals crosses from Messrs Wigham, Cold Shields, Haltwhistle to £1560 and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1550 from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton. Heifers were seen to peak at £1720 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan and £1690 for another from the same home. Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Appleby sold their best to £1620 Charolais crosses to £1500 from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie. Friesian steers from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton sold to a top of £1400.

WEANED CATTLE: A smaller entry of weaned cattle were forward with 247 forward. Good quality cattle were on offer with bulls topping the trade with a pair of Limousin x and Simmental bulls from Messrs Tallentire, High Griseburn, Appleby in Westmorland topping the day at £1200. In the weaned section there was numerous runs of quality cattle with bullocks topping up at £1150 W & B Nichol, Lawston Farm, Newcastleton with 12 averaging at £1067. Another quality consignment was forward by Messrs Metcalfe, High Old Shield, Greenhead with topped at £1110 with the consignment averaging at £1068. A busy ring side of buyers ensured all cattle sold to the vendors advantage with many more required.
