KING DOC RAE TOP FOR BERRYHOLME
The March Border & Lakeland sale had quality cattle on offer bred from proven cow families with oceans of milk. The overall average settled at £1801 with the top price cow selling for 3,000gns; it is worth noting that the trade on the month was down by just over £200 with many quality animals looking exceptional value for money.
Dugdale Nutrition sponsored the show and Malcom Hutchinson from Bowberhill Holsteins judged the pre-sale classes. The Overall Champion sold for 2,500gns and was purchased by James Taylor from High Whinnow Farm. Kepculloch Attico August Red was consigned by Robert Steel from near Glasgow she was sired by Attico Red and bred from the DRA August cow family.

The Stowbeck herd won Reserve Champion with Stowbeck Lighthouse Lydia who sold for 2,300gns to Gatrog Holsteins near Carmarthen. She was sired by Westcoast Lighthouse and was bred from six generations of Excellent or Very Good dams and displayed all the traits to become a Very Good two year old.

Topping the overall trade at 3,000gns was a powerful framed heifer bred from thirteen generations of Excellent or Very Good Roxy cows from Berryholme. She was sired by King Doc with a very impressive udder, her dam was one of the stars of the Berryholme Open Day sale who sold for 10,000gns to the late Robert McInnes. Berryholme King Doc Rae now joins the Gatrog Holsteins near Carmarthen.
The Gillespie family from High Ploughlands Farm near Wigton consigned a classy group of heifers and topped at 2,700gns with Ploughlands Fortune Kari who was purchased by the Millars from Kirkpatrick Fleming.
The Jackson family from Dumfries sold 16 yearling heifers from their Coppside Holstein herd to average £626 and topped twice at 700gns. These were well bred heifers sired by several proven sires along with some herd sires bred from the Warnelview herd.
