Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle Sale

STORE CATTLE – A much smaller entry of 360 Store cattle forward at Borderways weekly sale due to the weather and vendors looking to hold off selling until the next financial year.  Quality was well down throughout the sale, despite this, trade was seen to soar right back up to as dear as they have ever been with a days overall top of £1850 achieved twice for Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Wigham, Cold Shield, Hexham and another to £1830 from the same home.  Messrs Wales, Thackwood, Carlisle returned with three to average a healthy £1530 and to a top of £1680.  Messrs Willison, Cinderbarrow, Kendal topped their run of cattle to £1490 with an Aberdeen Angus.  Steers saw a day’s top of £1610 for a Limousin cross from Messrs MacDonald, Ladyhousesteads, Canonbie.  Simmentals to £1490 from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle.  British Blues crosses to £1470 from Messrs Graham, Carleton Hill, Carlisle and Aberdeen Crosses to £1450 and £1420 from Messrs Nichol, Lawston, Newcastleton.  Finally Black & White steers peaked at £1220 for Holsteins from Messrs Scott, Carrick Dean, Maryport and £1230 for Fleckviehs from David Allen Farming, Carlisle.

WEANED CALVES –  Most types of cattle up on the week with grass fever coming early in ring number 4.  A smaller show of bulls but plenty of buyers with rougher types looking a lot dearer.  However, it was bullocks and heifers that exemplified the increase trade on the week.  Bulls topped at £1220 for a Limousin from Messrs Bell, Middle Bridge.  Others sold to £1160 from Messrs Graham, Greencroft and Charolais to £1000 from Messrs Spencer, Gofra Farm.   Bullocks were up to £1050 from Limousins from Messrs Cowan, The Ash,  Roadhead and Stabilisers  were up to £1000 from Messrs Thompson, The Ash, Hexham.  Heifers stole the show with shorthorns making £1180 from Messrs McConnell, The Gass, Newton Stewart.  Limousin heifers sold to £1170 for two and £1100 for three from, J & E Pattinson, Bonshawside, Lockerbie.  £1130 for Herefords from Messrs Pattinson, Low Three Mark.
