Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,798 sheep were forward consisting of 3,044 prime hoggs, 748 cast sheep and 6 spring lambs.

Topping the sale at £207.50 were a pen of twenty-six 44kg Beltex cross hoggs from Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton.

Topping at 486.3p/kg were a pen of thirteen 40kg Beltex cross hoggs which made £194.50 also from Messrs Mason.

Next selling for £206 were a pen of twenty-one 45kg hoggs, a pen of nine 44kg at £205.50 and a pen of twenty 44kg making £198.50 and a pen of fifteen 45kg hoggs making £197.50 all from East Farm.

The consignment of 150 fantastic hoggs from this home sold to average a whopping £196.68 (43.8kg @ 448.22p/kg)

Messrs Skelton, Newhall Farm, Maryport sold a pen of nineteen 38kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £184.50 (485.5p/kg) with another pen of nine 38kg hoggs making £184.50 (482.9p/kg) also from Newhall Farm.

Messrs Robshaw, Beck House Farm, Tadcaster sold a pen of three 44kg hoggs to make £195.

Trade for all classes was much dearer with an SQQ average of 310.77p/kg and an overall sale average of 292.05p/kg and £130.16 for 3,044 hoggs which included over 1,100 horned and mule hoggs.

Blackfaced hoggs topped at 281p/kg for a pen of twenty-one 42kg hoggs which made £118, with another pen of twenty-six 43kg Blackfaced hoggs making £119 (276.7p/kg) from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown.

The run of 100 Blackfaced hoggs from this home sold to average 44kg £120.17 (272.18p/kg).

Banks Farms, Worksop sold a pen of twenty-eight 42kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £115.50 (275p/kg)

This run of 84 Blackfaced hoggs sold to average 42.3kg £115.83 (273.6p/kg)

Mule hoggs sold to 261.7p/kg for two pens of twenty-four hoggs weighing 47kg and making £123 from Messrs Johnson, Lincoln.

An unbelievable 10 pens and 113 hoggs sold between £190-£207.

61 pens and 368 hoggs sold between £170-£207

54 pens and 356 hoggs sold between 400-486p/kg

533 Beltex cross hoggs sold to average a whopping £173.47 and 405p/kg.

416 Blackfaced hoggs  sold to average £116.26 and 266p/kg.

Cast sheep were also off the clock with another market record of £300 for a pen of three Texel ewes from Messrs Millar, Crookholm, Canobie.

This same home also sold a pen of four ewes to make £225.

Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Penrith sold a pen of 10 Texel cross ewes to make £200.

Teeswater ewes sold to £204.50 from Messrs Johns, Selgin House, Kirkby Stephen .

Bluefaced Leicester ewes sold to £200.50 from Messrs Fearon, Workington.

Cheviot ewes sold to £176.50 from Messrs Bell, Hallbankgate Farm, Brampton.
