Borderway Calf Sale

On Wednesday 30^th March Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of calves with a total of 362 forward.  Todays trade would be sharper a touch on the week especially stronger black and whites and continental calves seeing the biggest rise.  Holstein Friesians bulls were a flier today topping at £240 twice from Irving Farming, Brunt Hill closely followed by Messrs Morley, Haddderdale who had five Holsteins Friesians at £200 respectfully.  Angus calves were up to £475 from Messrs Sherwen, Low Thorney Farm, who also had Angus at £440, £400 and £360.  £465 was top price Limousin today from Messrs McKie, Stoneybrook Farm, for a cracking bull calf.  Heifers were flying today with British Blues topping at £550 from regular consignor Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown. £440 was the top priced Limousin from Messrs Fox, Windy Hill for a strong heifer.  A plainer show of Angus topped at £335 twice from Messrs Beard, Dormanstead Farm for two thumping heifers. Although prices are sharper for stronger calves, young calves are still proving challenging to sell with again over a third of the sale being New Zealand system bred calves.
