Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

STORE CATTLE – Another smaller show of 350 store cattle forward this week, one thing not lacking however was the number of potential purchasers ringside as always when supply fails to meet demand an outstanding trade ensued.

Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown lead the way selling a pair of Aberdeen Angus x Friesians bullocks at £1830 with a Limousin x again ex dairy cow at £1820 with their run of eight levelling at £1643.75.  Heifers topped at £1750 for a tremendous Limousin cross from Messrs Johnston, Westray, Cockermouth.  Dairy bullocks sold to £1370 for Montbelairdes from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna, with Holsteins to £1295 from Adam and Amy Bell, Thethwaite, Wigton.  Native heifers sold to £1570 for Angus again from Messrs Johnston, Westray, Cockermouth.

WEANED CALVES – Ring 4 again proves a strong ring for stirks and weaned bulls with cattle all dearer on the week.  Top price of the day was for West Cumbrian farmers Brian and Christian Spencer, Gatra Farm,  who made the well worth trip to top the sale at £1440 for a Charolais x bull with others selling for £1240 and £1080.

Weaners also sold very well with a strong demand throughout with steers topping out at £1125 for a Limousin steer from Messrs Nichol, Lawston Farm, who sold a run of 14 Limousin x bullocks and heifers to average at £989.64.  Limousin heifers from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House topped at £1080 with others selling for £1070 and £1040 (x2) with his consignment of 10 cattle averaging at £1037.78.

All breeds, sizes and ages are very well sought after and with a very busy ring side of buyers ensured all cattle were well sold and all vendors leaving highly delighted.
