Kirkby Stephen OTM & Cast Cows

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their fortnightly sale of cast and OTM cattle.

Topping the sale at £1999.83 and 239.5p/kg was an eight year old Pure British Blue cow from Messrs Atkinson, Waitby Farm, Waitby and was bought by Owain Llyr, Rhuthun.

Messrs Beck, Townfoot sold a 642kg Limousin clean heifer to 231.5p/kg and £1486.23 purchased by D Barker.

Dairy cows topped at £1393.80 for a ten year old Friesian cow weighing 808kg and making 172.5p from Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange purchased by D. Barker.

Messrs Horn, Low Griseburn sold eight year old Limousin cow to 215.5p/kg £1422.30

Messrs Steadman, Ellergill sold a ten year old British Blue cross cow to make 194.5p weighting 752kg totalling £1462.64.

Holstein Friesians heifers topped at 193.5p from Messrs Barrow, Helm Farm, Ormside.

 Where is this cow trade going to end up? With a phenomenal overall sale average 181.53p/kg and £1143.24 per head, continental cows averaged £1259.61 and 194.8p/kg being the dearest ever seen and many more can be sold to great advantage!
