Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Wednesday 6th April Harrison & Hetherington had 1278 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 450 Store Cattle, 189 store bulls and weanlings, 480 calves and 159 Dairy cows in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale.

STORE CATTLE – A good entry of 450 Store cattle forward with a good show of size and flesh on offer.  Trade is undoubtably the dearest ever on record with more than 45 animals selling to over £1500, 30 selling over £1600 and 12 selling over £1800 to a days overall top of £1900 for a 23 month old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs RG & LA Grieve, Whiteside Farm, Hexham who’s run of 14 averaged a healthy £1510.71 for yearlings through to two year olds.  Messrs Beattie, Woodfield , Annan sold another Limousin heifer to £1880 also Messrs Wales, Thackwood, Carlisle to £1840.  Top Charolais cross again came from Messrs Grieve, Whiteside, Hexham peaking at £1870.

Steers sold to a days top of £1890 for a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Slack, Newby Farm, Carlisle.  Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe sold best Aberdeen Angus cross to £1880 and Messrs Harper, West House, Maryport to £1860 for a British Blue.  Dairy bred cattle saw a days top of £1370 for a Holstein from Messrs Nixon, Ribton House, Workington, £1350 for Friesians from Messrs Graham, Middle Farm, Wigton.  Many more store cattle could have been sold to vendors advantage.  Please advise entries to Main Office or any of the Auctioneers by Friday morning.

WEANED CALVES – A smaller, poorer show of cattle was met with the new normality of extreme high demand for all types.  Quality runs of cattle especially selling like hot cakes.  Limousin bullocks topped at £1120 twice from Messrs Elliot, Hallburn Croft and Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait.  Black and white bullocks topped at £850 from Messrs Jefferson, High Pow.  Limousin heifers sold to £1100 again from Messrs Robertson.  Charolais heifers sold to £1050 and £1040 from Messrs Ackerley, Milton Mains,  Bulls also saw a sharper trade as the day went on.   Limousins to £1190 from Messrs Mallinson, The Hill and £1180 from Mr Preston, Wed Holme.  Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £1150 from Thackwood Farms, Carlisle
