Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Spring Bull Sale

WHINNOW PRESIDENT TOPS AT 6K

The 19th Annual Spring Bull sale held on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club had an outstanding selection of bulls on offer from the best cows and the best herds in the UK.  Bulls topped at 6,000gns to average over £3500 with almost 50% of the bulls selling for or more than £3000.  A packed ringside had buyers from across the UK with all the home nations recorded on the buyers list.

The Show was sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition and judged professionally by retired Holstein UK classifier Malcom Dyson.  He selected Nerewater Ged as his overall Champion who was consigned by Richard Bell from near Wigton.  He was a Nerewater Jackpot son bred from the Gwennie cow family with the first four dams all classified either Excellent or Very Good.  This super black British Friesian bull flirted with perfection and sold for 4,600gns to Mr Ward in Lancashire.

The Reserve Champion went to Warnelview Rolf who was consigned by Kevin and Christine Wilson who sold for 4,200gns to Mr Lee in N. Ireland.  Rolf was sired by Silvio and bred from Warnelview Talent Ruby EX95, she has produced almost 100 ton of milk in her lifetime and completes four generation of cows to produce over 5% butterfat and 3.6% protein. 

The Warnelview herd sold another eleven bulls to average over £4000 and topped with Warnelview Rocky 2 who sold for 5,500gns who was purchased by Mr Murphy from N. Ireland.  Rocky was sired by AltaCordial and was bred from Warnelview Iota Ruby an Excellent 93 pointed cow with over 110 ton lifetime.   Another Warnelview bull that attracted a lot of attention was Warnelview Neymar who sold for 5,000gns to Mr Johnston from Falkirk.  He was a son of the herd icon Warnelview Final Cut Nita EX97 who continues to impress with over 150 ton of milk already produced. 

The sale topper came from the Whinnow herd owned by the Blamire family from near Wigton.  Whinnow President was a super stylish British Friesian bull who sold for 6,000gns to the Neill Family from Northumberland.  President was sired by Deangate Centurion and was bred from a successful line of show cows that originated from the Lismulligan herd.  His dam was an Excellent 94 daughter of Morcourt Hilton who was twice the UK’s top producing British Friesian in 2018 and 2021.  His grand dam was a two time Grand Champion at UK Dairy Expo.

The Annadale herd sold seven bulls to average just over £3900 and topped at 5,900gns for Annandale Santiago who was purchased by Mr Mattocks from near Penrith.  He was sired by Annandale Kraft and was bred from an amazing production cows that gave 14,000kgs at 4.69% butterfat and 3.96% protein.  Annandale Kingsman sold for 5.800gns and was purchased by Mr Adams from Stranraer.  He was sired by Monument Impression and was from the Kimberley cow family, his dam produced over 14,000kgs at over 5% butterfat. 

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 20th April and features 134 dairy cattle in Border & Lakeland  Club sale.  This sale includes 100 milking animals and a special consignment of 20 bulling heifers from the Bilsrow herd and 14 Ayrshire bulling heifers tracing back to the Windsor herd.  Catalogues for this sale can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be order from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
