Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 13^th April Harrison & Hetherington had 1303 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 651 Store Cattle, 296 store bulls and weanlings, 316 calves and 40 Pedigree Dairy bulls in the Border & Lakeland Spring Bull Show and Sale.

STORE CATTLE – A larger show of 651 store cattle were forward at Borderway on Wednesday, although numbers increased, best quality types and flesh were available in reduced quantities despite this trade was as good as ever with a day’s top of £2000 achieved for a Simmental cross steer for regular vendors Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe.  Limousin crosses sold to £1790 from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle and Messrs Gent, Brecks Farm, Newark made his annual journey North to enjoy once again another fantastic sale seeing a day’s top of £1740 and a healthy average of £1357 for his 33 cattle.  Native cattle sold to £1460 for Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Henderson, Cleughbrae, Lockerbie.  Heifers peaked at £1750 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan and Aberdeen Angus to £1690 from Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, and finally British Blues to £1640 from Messrs Graham, Carleton Hill, Carlisle.  Dairy bred steers to £1290 for a Fleckvieh from Messrs Allen, Ellerslea, Carlisle, £1260 for Montbeliardes from Messrs Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Wigton and Holsteins to £1180 for a pen of 5 from Messrs Graham, Stubby Knowe, Gretna.

WEANED CALVES – Both numbers and trade up on the week for Bulls, Bullocks and Heifers in Ring number 4.  Bulls topped at £1660 for a corker of a British Blue from Messrs Pattinson, Kinkry Hill.  Bulls sold to £1360 from Messrs Simpson, Poole Bank Farm and Limousins sold to £1320 from Messrs Graham Fell View.  A lot of quality heifers about also achieving a good trade, £1390 for a Limousin and £1100 from Messrs Mallinson, The Hill.  Limousin bullocks were up to £1200 from Messrs Ward, Whinstone Hill and Charolais bullocks to £1150 from Messrs Gibson, Cocklet Hill Farm.  More cattle are required to meet ever growing demand.
