On Wednesday 27th April Harrison & Hetherington had 1565 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 865 Store Cattle, 260 store bulls and weanlings and 440 calves
STORE CATTLE – At the weekly store cattle which attracted the largest entry seen in some time of 865 head. All classes of cattle were well catered for ringside selling to extreme rates. A number of large consignments came forward this week from far travelled vendors from the North, East, South and West
One such consignments travelling from Aberdeenshire was Messrs Fowlie, Guise, this run of 62 yearlings were of exceptional quality and sold to a top of £2700 for a 10 month old Limousin heifer with others to £2350. Bullocks from this home again yearlings peaked at £1780 and averaged a fabulous £1435.48. Strong cattle sold to £1960 from Messrs Stamper, Rose farm, Cockermouth for Limousin bullocks with his run of 6 averaging £1688.33.
Native cattle sold to £1560 for Angus bullocks from Messrs Graham, Carleton Hill, Carlisle with heifers to £1470 from Messrs Willison, Cinderbarrow, Kendal.
Dairy bullocks to £1560 for a pen of 3 Holsteins from Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton and to £1300 for Freemartins from Messrs Dent, Bridge End, Penrith.

WEANED CALVES – Bulls once again up on the week for all types from the top to the bottom end. Bullocks and heifers also a good trade for the stronger end especially the youngest grass cattle with more faces to bid. Bulls topped at £1300 for a Simmental from Gerrard House Farm Ltd, Wigton. Limousin bulls sold to £1125 from Messrs Bowe, Midtown. Heifers were up to £1260 from Messrs White, Sandford Hall. Others sold to £1150 from Messrs Park, Cowranside, Brampton. Charolais heifers sold to £900 from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Ross Farm. Bullocks also a solid trade with Holstein Friesians up to £820 from Messrs Thompson, Edenbanks. British Blue bullocks sold to £950 from Messrs Ivinson, Cooper House.
