Kirkby Stephen Breeding sheep Show & Sale

Kirkby Stephen, Faraday Road, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QL

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart, held their annual New Fair Prize Show and Sale of Breeding outfits when 1200 head were catalogued.

Topping the sale at £162 per life and £324 per outfit were a pen of two shear Texel cross ewes with lambs consigned by Messrs Wearmouth, Martindale Farm, Crosby Garret and were purchased by Messrs Slee, Street House, Kirkby Thore.

With another pen of two shear Texel ewes with single lambs also selling for £152 per life of £304 per outfit from this same home and selling again to Messrs Slee.

Hoggs and lambs topped at £152 per head and £304 per outfit for a pen of Texel crosses from Messrs Pedley, Yore House, Sedbergh which sold to Messrs Wood, Ulverston with this home also selling the first placed pen of Texel cross Mule hoggs to make £140 per life £280 per outfit selling to Messrs Greensit, Northallerton.

The first prize pen of Mule hoggs with lambs sold for £140 per life of £280 per outfit and were consigned by Messrs Winter, Clickham Farm being purchased by Messrs Ryland, Kendal.

Taking the first placed Swaledale ewes and lambs was a pen of 5 three and four shear ewes with twin mule lambs at foot which sold for £69 per life, £207 per outfit from Messrs Sayer, Great Musgrave and were purchased by Messrs Garth, Clapham.

Great thanks go to our pre sale judge Jack Wade, Skipton who ably carried out the judging of all three classes.

Topping the Swaledale ewes with lambs was a pen of three shear ewes with single lambs sold for £110 per life, £220 per outfit from Messrs Sayer selling to Messrs Garth.

Messrs Nicholson, Slip Cottage sold a pen of three crop Swaledale ewes with twin mule lambs to make £100 per life of £300 per outfit also selling to Messrs Garth.

A large ring side of buyers turned out, with all classes selling to a strong trade.
