DANNY BOY TOPS WITH SPECIAL RAE
Top quality animals from as far north as Aberdeen and down to Staffordshire many with exceptional pedigrees packed the May Border & Lakeland sale catalogue from start to finish. Trade topped at 4,900gns for a special heifer calf with milking heifers topping at 3,200gns on two occasions to average £2420.
The show was sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition and was judged by Matt Stephenson from Wintertarn Farm near Shap. His overall Champion went to Stowbeck Alvarez Mabel who was consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms and went on to sell for 3,000gns to the judge. She had classified Very Good the day prior to the sale and was sired by the young De-Su Syracse son Alvarez.

The Reserve Champion went to Boclair Luster Hope who was consigned by the Brewster family from near Glasgow. She sold for 2,700gns to Mr MacKenzie from Ross-Shire, she was sired by Luster P and bred from seven generations of Excellent or Very Goods from the Hope cow family.
The Boclair sold another four heifers to average £2900 and topped the overall trade with Boclair Crushtime Hope who sold for 3,200gns. Bred from the same cow family as the Reserve Champion and sired by Crushtime she displayed a ton of dairy quality producing almost 50kgs of milk.
The Berryholme herd equalled the top price with Berryholme Pepper Applause who sold for 3,200gns to the Caldwell family in Ayrshire. She was sired by Pepper and bred from five Very Good dams all with Superior Production awards.
As well as winning the overall Championship the Stowbeck herd sold another seven heifers to average almost £2700. Stowbeck Lighthouse Ester had classified Very Good 86 the day prior to the sale and sold for 2,900gns to Mr MacKenzie from Ross-Shire.
Dan Weaver from Staffordshire consigned an elite group of Holstein and Brown Swiss heifer calves as he prepares to travel to the USA. This beautiful group of calves topped at 4,900gns for Astonpool Crusha Wyn Rae who was purchased by the Lawrie family from Lanark. Sired by Crushabull she is a sister to the 21,000gns Deman Rae who topped the Sterndale Sale last year. Her first three dams are all classified Excellent 94 going back to the Queen of the Breed.
A well grown group of bulling heifers topped at 1,400gns to average £1044. Sewborwens Mick Rachel was sired by Jagger Mick and bred from the DRA August cow family and was purchased by George Borland from Ayrshire.
