On Wednesday 18th May Harrison & Hetherington had 1183 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 470 Store Cattle, 224 store bulls and weanlings, 407 calves and 82 pedigree Dairy cattle in the monthly Border & Lakeland Club Sale.
STORE CATTLE – A much smaller entry of 470 store cattle forward at the weekly sale whereby a tremendous trade was seen throughout the sale
Topping the sale overall was a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth at £1860. Messrs Stamper, run of 12 heifers averaged a fantastic £1615. British Blue crosses from Messrs McKie, Lawrence Holme, Wigton to £1580 and Simmentals to £1560 again from Rose Farm.
Steers saw a day’s top of £1730 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth and £1710 for another from Messrs Willison, Cinderbarrow, Kendal. Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton sold their best to £1700. Messrs Paul, Greigsland, Lockerbie sold a British Blue cross to £1605 and Charolais to £1500 from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle.
Black and white dairy bred steers were seen to peak at £1530 for a Friesian from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton. The same vendors managed to sell another at £1410.

WEANED CALVES – A smaller show of weaned cattle forward but the trade was on fire from start to finish with all classes much dearer on the week.
Top price of the day was once again paid for a cow and calf from Messrs Strick, Overby House, Wigton topping at £1480.
A tremendous Angus steer topped the steer section consigned by Messrs Summers, Milescott, Hexham sell for a respectable £1375.
Heifers also sold very well with a top price heifer being a Limousin from Messrs Hall, Nether Harsley Farm, Hexham selling for a very respectable £1095.
Another large show of bulls forward with more bidders present ensuring all bulls being well bid for.
All classes of cattle are required in Ring 4 on a weekly basis with grazing types very in demand.
