Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 25th May Harrison & Hetherington had 1401 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 440 Store Cattle, 314 store bulls and weanlings, 307 calves and 340 Pedigree Holstein Youngstock from G & J Brown, Lane End Farm, Irthington.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale 440 store cattle were forward.  One of the poorest shows we have seen for sometime, however the Borderway ring stood up to the test with all classes well catered for ringside.   Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Dearham lead the way once more with Limousin bullocks to £1860.  This price was also matched by another West Cumbrian vendor Messrs Johnston, Westray, Cockermouth who sold a fabulous Limousin x heifer again at £1860.

Native cattle sold to £1700 for two Beef Shorthorn bullocks consigned by Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton who also sold British Friesian to £1600.  Dairy bullocks sold to £1690 for Fleckvieh from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm,

WEANED CALVES – Once again a large entry of 314 stirks were on offer in Ring 4 with trade on fire.  Top price of the day was for a 12 year old Saler cow and calf selling for £1680 from Messrs Strick, Overby House.  Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside sold two 14 month old Limousin heifers for £1420 and £1400.  Messrs Ivinson, Cooper House sold a 12 month old Limousin x steer for £1210.  Messrs Tallentire, High Griseburn Farm sold a British Blue bull for £1160.
