May Fair Pedigree Sheep Sale

Dutch Sotted Sheep

The Dutch Spotted Sheep Society Sales were kicked off with a bang on Saturday at the annual Harrison & Hetherington Spring Spectacular. Last years’ enthusiasm for the breed continued, with the strong offering of 111 head selling at a steady trade throughout the day.

Nicola Foster, Outberry, set the mood of the sale, receiving top price for her two-crop ewe, IM1582 Cinderella. Cinderella sold with her Lochlad Dictator sired ewe lamb, Outberry Fair Lady, for 3,500gns to Burnmouth Trading, Ayrshire.

Next on the pricelist was IM1207, from J Dixon, Grayrigg Foot. Selling with her twin ewe lambs at foot, Grayrigg Foot Freedom & Grayrigg Foot Forever, sired by Turbo Bont Discovery, this one-crop ewe sold for 3000gns to Middlemoor Farm, North Yorkshire.

Also selling for 3000gns was Alastair Jacksons’ ram lamb, Tip Top Faberge. Sired by Tip Top Ed and out of IM1288, Blazing Heat, Faberge heads to his new home with A & J Carson, Co Tyrone.

3000gns was reached on two further occasions. First, for Jonathan and Janet Corbetts pair of Glencloy Chance lambs, Wedderburn Finians Rainbow (ram lamb) and Wedderburn Foxy Lady (ewe lamb). This flashy duo sold with their recipient dam to S J Parker & Son, Herefordshire.

Finally, Johnstown Fifi, bred by Chris Johnston and sired by the much-admired Carlaustan Extrovert was the last to reach 3000gns and sold to Adam Donald, Co Tyrone .

Blue Texel
The annual Blue Texel ‘Spring Spectacular’ Ewe & Lamb Sale ensured that regular sale supporters Allen Shortt & Samantha Allen’s trip from Northern Ireland was worth the journey when they secured the top price of the day with lot 441 DERG GODDESS (ET). Goddess which is a February born weaned Embryo Ewe Lamb with a great depth of pedigree, sired by Sunnybank Escobar and out of Derg Enigma (ET) who is a daughter of a the 2019 RUAS Champion, She sold for 2300gns and heads to wales to join the Trisant flock for G & E Jones, Holyhead.

Elaine & Issy Hartley went on to attain 2000gns for lot 469 PENDLE FREYA a Shearling Ewe out of Pendle Cocopop and sired by Millside DJA/18/0240C who is by the 4000gns Sams Yoyo, she sells to new breeders AS & T Lyth, Bacup, Lancashire who also secured Issy and Elaine’s previous lots PENDLE FIZZ 900gns & PENDLE FLOSSY 1300gns, both sired by Pistyll Double Diamond.

Stasa Moyse sold lot 445 a recipient with twin lambs at foot SALTIRE BLUE GINO (ET) (ram lamb) & SALTIRE BLUE GINA (ET) (ewe lamb) these are sired by the 6000gns Matts Escobar and out of the Flocks Show Ewe Saltire Blue Catch Me If You Can. This 1600gns outfit headed north to Hawick to Seth Elliot’s Cavers Flock.

SALTIRE BLUE FOXY LADY (ET) lot 456 a shearling ewe from Stasa Moyse lot sold for 1600gns to Mark Stephenson’s Londesborough Flock, York. Foxy Lady is sired by Caryls Blue Captain (ET) out of consistent breeding ewe Saltire Blue A Beauty. Full sisters of Foxy Lady have sold previously to 6000gns.
Mark Stephenson also purchased Shearling Ewe lot 462 for 1600gns from Fraser Forsyth, SUNNYBANK FUDGE (ET) bred by Henry Jewitt, Sunnybank Fudge is sired by Whatmore Europe (ET) (Whatmore Bentley x Whatmore Battenburg) out of the 2200gns Hackney HAC/17/01571.

 Badgerface Texel
A small entry from the Woodies flock was forward, topping at 2800gns for an Import ewe sired by a Dutch Import out of Woodies Madonna, she sold with a Woodies Full Monty ewe lamb. She sold to Messrs Ridge, Shropshire.

Selling for the next best at 2000gns was a smart empty hogg Woodies Classy Lady, she was sired by Powerful Tornado and out of an import ewe. She was purcahsed by the High Ploughlands flock of Hannah Pedley, Kirkby Stephen.

Beltex
Females met a select demand at the Beltex Sheep Society’s Beltex Belles sale at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway Mart on Saturday, 21 May, when entries from Stuart Wood’s Woodies Flock from Aberdeenshire led the trade.

Selling for the top price of 1100gns was Stuart’s Woodies Glam ET, a substitute entry by Ryder Eddie bred from the noted 1443 Belgian import that won her class at the Royal Highland in 2019. Glam caught the ewe of Messrs Mitchell and heads south to Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire.

Next best at 850gns when knocked down to William Smith for his Greenridge Flock near Hexham was Woodies Go Get It Girl, this time by the 5500gns Skiddaw View Endurance and out of another imported ewe.

Close behind on 800gns was another by the Skiddaw View Endurance ram in the shape of Woodies Galway Girl ET which is out of Woodies Cauldron, a Loandhu Bonzo daughter. She joins John Shedden and Sons’ Newfield Mains Flock near Kilmarnock.

Joining Galway Girl in the Newfield Mains Flock was Woodies Glitter Girl ET. Sired by Bailey Brook CR7, she is out of Woodies Crunchie Nut from the flock near Skene, Westhill, and realised 700gns.

Matching that 700gns was Nikay Going Going Gone from Nick Gill and Kayley Kennedy, from near Keswick. Selling to Harry Askwith for his Askwith Flock, Crook, County Durham, she is by Swffryd Diplo and out of Withy Trees Easy Come Easy Go.
