On Wednesday 1st June Harrison & Hetherington had 1164 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 370 Store Cattle, 247 store bulls and weanlings, 364 calves and 200 Dairy cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day.
STORE CATTLE – A seasonal offering of 370 Store cattle forward this week with all classes being exceptionally dear. Strong cattle saw Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Dearham dominate at the top end selling Simmental heifers to £1900 with Limousin and Saler bullocks both selling to £1880 leaving an average of £1612.50 for 12.
British Blue bullocks sold to £1820 from Messrs Johnston, Westray, Cockermouth with dairy bred British Blue heifers to £1450 from Messrs Rudd, Grassing, Kirkbride. Native cattle sold to £1410 for dairy bred Angus bullocks from Messrs Crichton, Limekilns, Annan. Young cattle sold to £1570 for a cracking 12 month old Limousin x heifer from Gary Bell, Haas Side, Lockerbie who run of yearling heifers averaged £1486.67.

WEANED CALVES – Once again Ring 4 all classes of cattle selling beyond expectations seeing vendors leaving highly delighted
Top price of the day was paid for a Charolais x cow and calf from Messrs Lindsay, High Crosby Farm, Crosby Moor selling for £1720 with a 3 week old calf at foot.
An outstanding run of cattle were forward by Messrs Hughes, Dona Close, Asby, Appleby who topped the weaned cattle at £1260 for a of Limousin steer with their run of 10 cattle averaging a very respectable £1215. Heifers were once again very well sold with all breeds and sizes in demand. Top price heifer was sold by Messrs Nichol, Lawston Farm, Newcastleton selling for £1190.
Bulls were also much better to sell with a busier ring and more bidders. Top price bull was a Limousin from Messrs Carlyle, Slealands Burn selling for £1235.
