On Wednesday 8th June Harrison & Hetherington had  940 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 444 Store Cattle, 196 store bulls and weanlings, and 300 calves.

STORE CATTLE – A good entry of 444 store cattle forward selling to a marvellous trade throughout for all shapes and sizes.  Top overall was a superb Limousin heifer from Messrs Foster, North View, Carlisle peaking at £1760.  Messrs Robinson, West Cocklaw, Hexham sold another to £1620 and £1600.  Messrs Beattie, Shield Green, Carlisle to £1600.  Charolais crosses to £1540 for two from Messrs Watret, Burnside, Annan.  British Blues to £1450 from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith.  Limousin steers from Messrs Hope, Albierigg, Canonbie and Messrs Campbell, Carsewalloch, Newton Stewart both selling to a top of £1550.  British Blues to £1540 from Messrs Irving, Thackmire, Wigton.  Beef Shorthorns to £1480 from Messrs Watret, Burnside, Annan.  Dairy bred steers peaked at £1330 for Fleckviehs from Auchengray Farms, New Abbey, Dumfries.  Friesian from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith to £1270. As numbers tighten more cattle are required on a weekly basis to fulfil demand.

WEANED CALVES – In the weaners section from start to finish the ring had its usual electric buzz with buyers from far and wide ensuring all stock very well bid for.

Top price of the day was paid for a British Blue bull from Andrew Kirkbride, Flimby Hall Farm topping the day at a very respectable £1400.  Grazing cattle were also good to sell for all shapes and sizes once again.  Top price bullock was paid for a pen of 6 British Blues from Messrs Carr, Whiteclose Rigg, Longtown selling for £1125.  The same vendor also took the top spot for a British Blue heifer selling for £1125.
