DENVER RHAPSODY TOPS FOR KEMP
The Border & Lakeland Holstein summer sales kicked off in style with an impressive group of freshly calved cows and heifers all giving oceans of milk. Trade remained similar on the month with a top of 4,100gns with the overall average for milkers coming to £2277.
The show was sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition and was judged by John Unsworth from Edenfield Farm near Preston. His overall Champion went to the winning cow, Drointon Dynasty TS Marqi who was consigned by David & Jim Gray from near Glasgow and went on to sell for 3,300gns to Notniord Holsteins from the Midlands. She was sired by Jackpot Dynasty and bred from an Excellent 95 dam and will complete sixteen generations of Excellent or Very Good cows when she classifies later this year.

The Reserve Champion went was a special heifer with a big time pedigree. Peak Brenlan Rhapsody was consigned by Peter Kemp from Aberdeen and sold for the 3,700gns to Mr Graham from near Stirling. Her grand dam was full sister to the three time UK Dairy Expo Champion Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody EX97. Mr Kemp sold another four heifers to average almost £2800 including the first place Junior Heifer, Drointon Blake Melody who sold for 3,000gns to Mr Millar from Kirkpatrick Fleming. This fine heifer’s fourth dam was the two time National Grand Champion, Shanael Gelpro Melody EX95.
Reserve Champion
The Boclair sold another five super uddered heifers to average over £2500 and topped twice at 2,700gns first for Boclair Luster Gypsy was purchased by the Denholm family from Bonnybridge. This heifer oozed style and was bred from an Excellent 93 Glauco dam. Second to sell for 2,700gns was Boclair Crushtime Marie who now joins the Belahvalley herd near Kirby Stephen. She was bred from the Denmire Marie cows family.
The overall top price went to a powerful young bull consigned by Matthew & Ruth Harper who sold for 4,100gns to the Chester family from near Wigton. Lillyhall Marco, was sired by Kingpin and was bred from an Excellent 94 dam who is the fifteenth generation of Excellent or Very Goods.
