The Carlisle May Bull Sale saw an 86% clearance with 51 Aberdeen-Angus bulls finding new homes to an average of £4869.12, up £497 on the year with the sale topping at 9000gns. Proceedings kicked off on Friday 20th May with Lot 180, Wensleydale Just Eric X053 from Christopher Timm standing champion and Lot 111 Stouphill Buster W339 from the Allen Family reserve champion.
Sale topper, Wensleydale Just Eric X053 a March 2021 born bull from Christopher Timm is by Blelack Ensign L796. He was first in his class and stood Junior Male Champion and overall Male Champion. Judge Mr Mark Wattie picked him as Overall Champion. Eric is out of Wensleydale Janet Erica S046. He heads off to his new home with Daniel Whiteford’s Borewell Herd at Berwick.
Second top in the sale at 7000gns was Lot 112 McCornick Dakota W728 a May 2020 born bull from the McCornick Family at Newton Stewart. By home bred sire, Mccornick Evade R168, Dakota stood 3rd in his class. Evade was also sire to McCornick Panther who sold for 7200 at Stirling in May 2020 and to the Baby Beed Champion at Beef Expo in 2021.
Following on at 6500gns was the Reserve Overall Champion, Lot 111 Stouphill Buster W339 a May 2020 born bull from the Allen family at Stouphill. Buster was 1st in his class and stood Senior Male Champion and Reserve Overall Male Champion. Buster is a Rawburn Estonian son and out of Stouphill Blossom P102. Buster heads to Essex with Hull & Partners.
Also going for 6500gns was Lot 130 Eilean Preacher W186 an August born 2020 born son of Schivas Jason Eric U630 and out of Eilean Princess S094 from the McSporran family at Innerleithen. Preacher stood first in his class and went on to be Reserve Senior Male Champion. Preacher heads to the Scottish Borders with AS Hogg & Partners.
The hammer fell for a final time at 6500gns for Lot 189 Duncanziemere Extra X437 a May 2021 born bull by Auchincrieve Exodus U285 who was bought at Carlisle May Sale in 2019 for 13000gns. Exodus is also sire of Duncanziemere Jacobite W374 who sold at Stirling in February 20222 for 30000 gns. Extra joins the Windyedge herd of Robin Dunlop in Ayrshire.
Next up at 6000gns was Lot 159 Tonley Emmanuel X801 a February 2021 born bull by Tonley Jester Eric S318 and out of Tonely Emiline T469. Emmanuel was not shown due to Mark Wattie of the Tonley herd being the judge. Emmanuel heads off to Kelso with Tom Arnott for the Haymount herd.
A second Tonley bull realised 6000gns with Lot 164, Tonley Bdandie X802 a February born bull also by Tonley Jester Eric S318 Bdandie is out of Tonley Belle T423 and heads to the Crook Rise herd.
Aberdeen-Angus females also had a good day with an average of £1761.19 for the 28 females sold.
Joint leading female price were Lot 199, Duncanziemere Ellen Erica X415 a March 2021 heifer by Wedderlie Black Art V000 for 3200gns she stood 2nd in her class and heads to the Yearsley herd of Adrian Johnson.
Also selling for 3200gns was lot 202 Rulesmains Egrebe X520 also a March 2021 heifer by Duncanziemere Judge R170. Egrebe stood 1st in her class and heads to Castle Douglas with H & N Armstrong.

Friday’s show saw Mark Wattie of the Tonley herd in Aberdeenshire judge the Aberdeen-Angus classes. Speaking after the show, Mark thought there was a good show of cattle forward for judging. Mark noted that in his judging he was looking for nice easy fleshing bulls. Commenting on his champion, Lot 180 Wensleydale Just Eric X053, “he is a really nice young bull that carried himself and walked extremely well.”
