Keirmains Herd Disperses In Style

The Keirmains pedigree Holstein and Ayrshire herd owned by the Young family who farm near Thornhill in Dumfriesshire was dispersed at Borderway in front of large crowd of milk producers from across the UK.  The Keirmains prefix has featured in the monthly pedigree sales at Borderway for many years and has built up a strong reputation for cattle that go and do well.  Many of these previous buyers returned to support the sale that saw trade top at 3,000gns to average £1960 for the Holstein milking animals.

Topping at 3,000gns was a Holstein cow with an amazing udder, Keirmains Mardi Gras Bluebell had calved in April in her second and was giving 42kgs.  She had classified Very Good as a two year old and was purchased by the McCulloch’s from Stranraer. 

Another fancy young cow that attracted some brisk bidding was Keirmains Fantastic Val who sold for 2,700gns to Mr Forshaw from Lancaster.  She has recently classified Very Good and was bred from an Excellent Goodwhone dam. 

The Ayrshire cows and heifers averaged £1697 and topped at 2,700gns for Keir Mains Lolita who was purchased by the Clark’s from Newton Stewart. This awesome uddered heifer was sired by Marbrae Bigtime and had recently calved giving 35kgs. 

In Calf heifers were in demand and averaged £1841 and topped at 2,150gns twice.  The first was for Keirmains Supersire Ruth 5 who was due to Westcoast Perseus sexed in October.  Her dam was a tremendous Excellent 93 daughter of Hydaways Goldmine who had sold earlier in the sale for 2,000gns milking in her sixth lactation.  The second was for Keirmains Supersire Ruth 3 who was due to Wilder Dynamite sexed in November. 

One of the major attractions in this sale was the Holstein and Ayrshire heifer calves with both breeds topping at 950gns to average £607.  Keirmains Supersire Bell topped the Holstein calves she was sired by Seagull-Bay Supersire and bred from a Very Good Mardi Gras dam who sold for 2,400gns.  Keirmains Gladness topped the Ayrshire calves she was sired by Ardmore Jeepers Creepers and was bred from and Excellent Oblique dam that sold for 2,000gns in her sixth lactation.
