On Monday 27th June 2022 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Primestock.
PRIME BULLS – A much smaller entry of only 35 Prime bulls forward seeing trade sharper on the week. Top of £2206.88 was paid to Messrs Rome, Niven Hill, Gretna for a 825kg Limousin purchased by Messrs Medcalf, Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax. Seymour Farms, Wigton sold 735kg to £1914.68 and purchased by A & O Meats. British Blue steers to £1638 for a 608kg from Messrs Parsons, Slealands, Longtown. This bull was also top pence per kilo of 269.50. Messrs Mitchinson, beck House, sold second joint top of 267.50 along with Niven Hill Farm, for Limousin Crosses.
Dairy bred bulls peaked at £1501.50 for a 700kg Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins, Lockerbie purchased by Capper Farming.

PRIME CATTLE – A good entry of 66 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderways weekly sale whereby all classes sold to a strong trade with five steers selling over £2000 to a day’s overall top of £2069.76 for a 768kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Wilson, Petteril Hill Farm, Carlisle purchased by Pioneer Foods. Messrs Nicholson, The Lake sold a further two to £2028.49 and £2007.99 and Messrs Cape, Kirkland Guards, Wigton to £2024.93. Top pence per kilo steer was a 713kg Limousin cross from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake achieving 284.5p purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.
Heifers peaked at £1887.15 for a 690kg Limousin cross from Messrs Pearson, Plasket Lands, Maryport. The same vendors also sold a 647kgs to £1886.01 purchased by Pennys of Leeds.
Charolais crosses sold to £1784.48 for a 721kg from Messrs Martindale, Lands Farm, Ecclefechan purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Top overall pence per kilo of 298.50 went to Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton for their 545kg British Blue cross selling to Steven Wilson, Butchers Shop, Corby Hill, Carlisle. Many more can be sold to vendors advantage here at Borderway on a weekly basis.

PRIME SHEEP – A reduction of numbers this week saw trade remain strong for all types although trade slipped on the week, a remarkable average of £132.87 per head sees prices higher than that of last years trade. Topping this week was Messrs Wigham, Hargill House who sold Dutch Texels to £176 per head selling to Mr A Dawson on behalf of Vivers Scotlamb. Beltex lambs from David Allen, Ellerslea, Dalston led per kilo at 415.4 ppk again to Mr A Dawson on behalf of Vivers Scotlamb. Many more lambs needed for next week to satisfy requirements.
