Borderway Sale of Store Cattle & Weanlings

On Wednesday 6th July Harrison & Hetherington had 1344 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 411 Store Cattle, 334 store bulls and weanlings, 302 calves and 297 Dairy in the Border Monthly Dairy Day

STORE CATTLE – A good sale of 411 Store cattle forward at Borderway’s weekly sale, whereby quality was well down on the week with over 95% of the sale being bred from a dairy cow.  Nevertheless, trade rages on seeing all types a very good trade again. Top overall at £1880 was a marvellous Limousin cross heifer from weekly vendors Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, the same firm also sold second top price of £1760.  Messrs Whitfield, Orton Rigg, Carlisle sold the next best two at £1720 and £1710.  Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, Brampton sold a quality Charolais cross to £1550 and British Blue crosses peaked at £1480 from Messrs Graham, Carleton Hill, Carlisle.  Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Crichton, Limekilns, Annan peaked at £1340.

Steers saw a day’s top of £1690 for Limousin crosses from Messrs Grice, Newtown Farm, Carlisle and £1680 for another from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm.  Charolais from Messrs Graham, Hillhead,  Canonbie sold to £1630.  Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle sold a pen of 3 Hereford crosses to £1560, a Simmental to £1505 and a pen of 6 Friesians to £1420.  Please advise entries to the Auctioneers or Main Office by Friday 10am.

WEANED CALVES – A large run of 333 weaned cattle were forward with another packed ringside of buyers from start to finish.  Weaned bulls were once again very well sought after with a Limousin bull from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields, Lockerbie topping the day at £1700.

The weaned cattle saw an exceptional top end with the best types very well bid for.  A tremendous Limousin steer was forwarded by Messrs Hall, West End Farm, topping the steers at £1360.  The same good farm topped with the heifers at £1380.  Another great consignment was forwarded by Messrs Bird, Ghyll House, Wreay with a 12 month old Limousin heifer selling for a very respectable £1270 and a Limousin steer aged 9 months selling for £1270.
