Borderway Sale of Store Cattle & Weanlings

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Wednesday 20th July Harrison & Hetherington had 858 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 215 Store Cattle, 248 store bulls and weanlings and 274 calves.  Also this day 121 Dairy cattle in the Border & Lakeland Club sale.

STORE CATTLE – As cattle numbers tighten, competition ringside has certainly stepped up a notch with all classes a flying trade.  Leading the way this week was Messrs Grice, Newtown who sold Limousin x bullocks to £1840 on two occasions.  Native cattle not far behind with Messrs Johnston, Westray, Cockermouth selling Aberdeen Angus x bullocks to £1820.  Heifers peaked at £1570 for a fantastic Charolais x from Messrs Dobson, West End, Allonby.  More cattle required to satisfy demand on a weekly basis, please advise entries for next week’s sale to any of our Auctioneers, or the Mains Office on 01228 406200

WEANED CALVES – A much plainer show on offer with a large proportion of the sale being Dairy bulls.  A quieter ringside of buyers was evident with harvesting and grass shortage starting to show.  Top price of the day was achieved for an Angus cross cow and calf from Alan Hague, Mill Street, Whitehaven topping the day at £1320.  A large run of bulls topped at £1260 for a Limousin consigned by Messrs Graham, Orchard Farm, Hawick.  A shower of rain to help the grass situation will be very welcome sight to ensure Ring 4 maintains a packed ring side of buyers ringside that people are used to.
