Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,810 sheep were forward consisting of 1,614 prime lambs, 1,302 cast sheep and 894 store lambs

Topping the sale at £212 was a 66 kilo Texel lamb from Craig Douglas, Wetheriggs Farm, Penrith, 61 Kilo Texel lambs sold to make £182 and 55 kilo lambs to £172 also from Craig Douglas. 

The 11 lambs from this home sold to average 54 kilos, £150.55.

Topping at 371.8p per kilo were a pen of three 42.5 kilo Beltex cross lambs which made £158 from Messrs Pickard, Leicestershire with 49 kilo lambs making £152 also from this home.  Another pen of 11, 42 kilo lambs sold to make £148.50 (353.6p per kilo) also from Messrs Pickard. 

Messrs Storey, Limestone Cottage, Penrith sold 46 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £151. 

Charlotte and Georgia Davies, Leicestershire sold a pen of 11, 41.5 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £150.  The consignment of 40 lambs from this home sold to average 41.8kilos £145 (348p per kilo). 

A pen of 16, 35 kilo Beltex cross lambs sold to make £126.50 (361.4p per kilo) from Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield. 

Trade for all classes and weights of prime lambs was much stronger than any other recently seen with an SQQ average of 270.39p and an overall average of 265.48p per kilo being achieved. 

Smart bred and heavy lambs were in strong demand with Suffolk cross lambs topping at £135 from Messrs Chippendale, Mere Bank Farm, Bleatarn and heavy Mules topping at £126 from Messrs Inman, Kilnknowe, Lockerbie. 

Texel cross Mule lambs sold to £140 for a pen of five lambs from Messrs Robson, Malton. 

Messrs Inman, Lockerbie sold a pen of 9, 49 kilo Texel cross Mule lambs to make £134 (273.5p per kilo). 

Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill Farm, Workington sold a pen of 50 kilo Texel cross Mule lambs to make £125 (250p per kilo) with another pen of 10 49.5 kilo Texel cross Mules making £124 (250.5p per kilo) also from Stubsgill Farm. 

Cast sheep were another flying trade here at Kirkby Stephen!.

Toping this section at £235 was a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Balmer, Grassgill.

Charollais cross ewes sold to £210 from Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Penrith. 

Bluefaced Leicester ewes sold to £167.50 for a pair from Messrs Longstaff, Bail Hill View, Barnard Castle.

Mule ewes sold to £141.50 from Messrs Pedley, Yore House, Sedbergh. 

Blackfaced ewes sold to £123.50 from Messrs Allonby, Laneside, Kirkby Stephen. 

Swaledale ewes topped at £120 from Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras. 

Cast Rams sopped at £215 for a pair of Texel cross from Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield. 

All classes of cast sheep required here at Kirkby Stephen on a weekly basis to a competitive ringside of buyers!.
