Borderway Sale of Store Cattle & Weanlings

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

STORE CATTLE – A good entry of 350 store cattle forward at Borderways weekly sale whereby an overall average of £1218 was achieved and seeing 24 sell over £1500 to a top of £1880 for a Limousin cross heifer of Messrs Beattie, Ratlinggate Farm, Carlisle.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth to £1830 for another.  Herefords to £1320 for one from Wilson of Woodside, Carlisle.

Steers sold to a day’s top of £1830 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Barnes, Hutton Roof, Penrith and the same home sold another to £1800.  Charolais to £1710 from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth.  Piemontese sold to £1690.  British Blues to £1500 from Messrs Holiday, Town Foot, Penrith.  Herefords to £1570 from Messrs Grice, Newtown Farm, Carlisle.

Black and whites peaked at £1240 for two Friesians from Messrs Harrington, Wellington Farm, Wigton

WEANED CALVES – Grass fever is well and truly in the air as both bulls and weaning cattle are once again up significantly on the week.  All types of cattle extremely well bid for with buyers looking for a lot more numbers on the day.  Simmental bulls topped at £1290 from Gerrard House, Wigton.   Limousin bulls sold to £1220 for a fantastic bull from Messrs Hall, Horsleyhill.  British Blue bulls were up to £1125 from Messrs Nixon, Longlea who also had a brilliant run of bulls and heifers too.

Messrs Thompson, Edenbanks topped the Aberdeen Angus heifers with one at £1280 and another at £1100.  Limousin heifers sold to £1180 and £1100 from Messrs Nixon,  Longlea.  Messrs Nixon also topped the British Blue bullocks at £1100.  Aberdeen Angus bullocks topped at £1090 from Messrs Temple, Newbiggin Farm,
