ROXY & FAITH TOP AT 3,800
Super Trade with 36 selling for more than £3,000
The August Border & Lakeland sale had a tremendous offering of pedigree dairy cattle consigned by many of the top Holstein herds from the north of England and Scotland. Demand continues to rise as does the values, the club sale topped at 3,800gns twice with milking heifers averaging £2813; 36 animals sold for or more than £3000. The Boclair Bright Futures sale followed the club sale with trade topping at 9,000gns to average £2456 for in calf and bulling heifers.
The show was sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition and was judged by Ali Cook from Hurkledale Farms near Annan. His overall Champion went to the winning Senior heifer, Carldanton Integral Mahogany 2 who was consigned by Stephen Boow from west Cumbria and went on to top the trade at 3,800gns to Mr Coulthurst from near Preston. She was sired by Blondin Integral and traced back to an Advent sister to Scientific Debutante Rae.

The Reserve Champion was a special cow from with a special pedigree and in many ways was the best value for money on the day. Absolute Freed From Desire was consigned by Absolute Genetics, she had recently calved in her third. He dam is full sister to proven sire Brenland Denver and her fifth dam was the All American, Scientific Debutante Rae. She topped the cow trade selling sold for 2,800gns to the Hodge family from Ayrshire.

The second place senior heifer also sold for 3,800gns to the Oldfields from near Gisburn. Billincoat Mardi Chevy was consigned David Mutton whose herd has recent won of the Lancashire Herd competition. She was sired by Mardi Gras and will complete 11 generations of Excellent or Very Good cows, her sixth dam was the famous Ralma Juror Faith.
The Border & Lakeland Herd competition was won recently by the Stowbeck Holstein herd. They consigned 19 special heifers many bred from deep cow families and all giving oceans of milk to average £3006. This impressive group topped at 3,600gns for Stowbeck Secretariat Lydia who was purchased by the Innes family from near Nairn. Her dam was an Excellent 92 Shottle with a massive lifetime yield followed by a further six generations of top classified cows.
