STORE CATTLE – A return to weekly type cattle saw no let up in demand with all classes experiencing hard demand ringside with 32% or 136 out of the 425 cattle forward selling from £1300 to a sale topping £1950
Reaching this figure was an absolutely wonderful Limousin cross heifer from Denis Charlton, Crown Point Farm, Penrith, closely followed at £1860 by regular consignors Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth with the top 9 prices being heifers over £1700. Messrs Stamper being responsible for 4 along with Messrs Beattie, Ratlinggate, Carlisle who sold a further four at £1740 (x3) and £1700. Messrs Stamper lead the consignment averages at £1691.67 for six. Messrs Johnston, Low Flow, Wigton topped the bullocks at £1690 for a cracking Limousin cross. Messrs Fowlie, Guise of Tough, Aberdeen sold 16 yearlings to a top of £1570 for heifers with others to £1560 to average £1385.

WEANED CALVES – Ring 4 continues to please vendors as all types of cattle sell well but particularly the better end. The best end of bulls sell extremely well topping at £1450 for a Limousin from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields. The same home also had bulls at £1355 and £1280. Messrs Oliver, Cawfields also had a fantastic run of Limousin bulls topping at £1270 and averaging just shy of £1200 for 12. British Blue bulls were sold up to £1160 from Messrs Dixon, Westfield. Hereford bulls topped at £940 from Messrs Graham, Barnglies. Bullocks also a strong trade today topping at £1140 from J & S Ivinson, Cooper House Farm, and £1130 from Messrs Hall, Horsleyhill. Charolais bullocks topped at £1110 from Messrs Dale-Sunley. Heifers sold to £1210 from Mr Norwood, Fell End with Messrs Hall, Horsleyhill Farm having another at £1155.
