Lazonby Store Lamb Sale

On Thursday 25^th August Harrison & Hetherington conducted their Show and sale of 3014 lambs in Lazonby market.  An average of £83.24 was achieved with vendors being more than satisfied with the days trading.  A pre sale show took place, this year the honour fell to Mr Tom Wilson, Thursby who after much thought handed the Championship to local vendors Mike and Marie Faulder which later went on to sell for £138.  This run of 55 sheep managed to average a spectacular £116.70.  The Reserve Championship went to the pen of mules from W & HI Watson, Saunders Close who sold a pen of 20 to the price of £100.  This run of 190 mules averaged £85 which saw them sell a pen of 139 to the price of £82.  However top price of the day came from JMJ Fisher & Daughters, Holmewrangle who sold 10 Beltex x to £141 and sold 39 sheep to average £120.31.  Hill sheep were in great demand which saw R & J Watson, Croglin Low Hall sell 88 Cheviots to average £104.72.  Mules were once again met with a lovely trade with 1503 selling to average £78.41.  Swaledale sheep were met with a big trade which saw Mr Chris Purdham who sold a pen of 10 for £71.  Suffolks topped at £100 for a pen from Mr Robert Pickthall who sold 136 sheep to average £86.49.  One of the biggest show of sheep in Lazonby was witnessed with many more needed to satisfy demand.
