STORE CATTLE – Another great weekly entry of 571 Store cattle were forward at Borderway, this week, another large ringside of customers were present with trade seeing a very two tiered enquiry, strength and cover sold to extreme rates once more, however the increasing number of summered grass types prove to have lower limits on attainable rates. Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth continue to dominate the leading prices with their forward stores selling to a sale lead of £1850 for Charolais x bullocks. Heifers sold to £1800 for an outstanding Limousin x from Messrs Beattie, Ratlinggate, Carlisle. Young cattle sold to £1500 for a yearling heifer from first time vendors Gordon & Lesley Lawson, Huntley Lodge, Aberdeenshire.

WEANED CALVES – With many more numbers being sold on the week, vendors take advantage of the demand for cattle. Bulls were a seriously good trade from the offset. Top price of the day was a Charolais bull at £1470 from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill. Limousins top at £1450 from Messrs Knox, Craigside. Others were up to £1330 again from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill. Bullocks and heifers also sold well especially for the top end. The bottom end of cattle are harder to cash as we reach the end of summer. Heifers top at £1040 from Messrs Coates, Crowdieknowe. Bullocks reach heights of £1170 from Messrs Osborne, Castlehill for an Aberdeen Angus. Limousins top at £1130 and £1100 from Messrs Wigham, Riggshields.
