BANKVIEW TOP WITH A TASTY PIE
The September Border & Lakeland sale was once again packed with phenomenal milking animals many with exceptional pedigrees and the breeders and consignors must be congratulated. There was a subdued atmosphere around the ring and this was reflected in the trade with the average down on the month and several animals looking value for money. The sale topped at 3,400gns with milking heifers averaging £2404; 10 animals sold for or more than £3000.
The show was sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition and was judged by Andrew Wilson from Northshields Holsteins near Cupar in Fife. His overall Champion went to the winning Junior heifer, Espland Apps Alison 2 who was consigned by Alan Cannon from near Appleby. She was sired by Lindenright Apps and sold for 2,700gns to Mr Roper.

The Reserve Champion went to the winning Senior heifer Davlea Fitz Raven was consigned by Peter Kemp and sold for £2,200gns to the Caldwell family in Ayrshire. She was sired by Fitz and bred from an Excellent Aftershock dam from the Blackstar Raven cow family. Me Kemp sold another 4 heifers to average almost £2400 including Wyevalley Crushtime Sky Rae who sold for 3,200gns to Mr Oldfield.

The sale topper was consigned by Mark Walton from the Bankview herd near Kirby Stephen who sold for 3,400gns to Mr Roper. Bankview Aladdin Pie was a super robust heifer with close to perfect feet and legs and wide frame, she was bred from 12 generations of Excellent or Very Good dams from the Golden Oaks Mark Prudence cow family.
The Border & Lakeland Herd competition was won recently by the Stowbeck Holstein herd. They consigned 20 special heifers many bred from deep cow families and all giving oceans of milk to average £2615. This impressive group topped at 3,100gns for Stowbeck Alligator Hilary who was purchased by Mr Roper. Her dam was an Excellent 90 Brawler with a massive lifetime yield of over 60 ton of milk.
Ten animals sold for or more than £3000 including Grayridge Awesom Bridget who was consigned by Jim & David Gray from East Kilbride. She was a special uddered heifer sired by Awesome Red and bred from 11 generations of Excellent or Very Goods dams from the Bridget cow family that originated from Indianhead Holstein in Wisconsin. Bridget was purchased by Mr Oldfield from near Gisburn.
