On Saturday 24th September Harrison and Hetherington held their annual prize show and sale of suckled calves at Borderway Mart.
A tremendous show of 420 suckled calves were forward to the annual show and sale, whereby average saw an overall rise of £47.62 to level at £1220.90, with steers averaging £1229.97 (+£40.97) and heifers £1213.39 (+”52.39)
The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Capontree vets and ably judged by Gordon & Harry Amos, West View Farm, Lincolnshire and the due deservedly awarded Messrs Laird, Sunnyside Farm, Cumnock the 1st prize Limousin cross heifer and Champion Overall suckled calf, which went on to sell to £3200 and was purchased by local farmer Amy Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, Penrith.
The Reserve Overall award went to the 1st prize Limousin cross steer from Mr David Wright, Woodend and later sold for £1600 to Messrs Bently, The Gables, Keswick. The second top price of the day came from a fantastic run of calves from Mr Gary Bell, Haas Side, Lockerbie selling at £2800 for a Limousin cross heifer. Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logerait, Pitlochry sold their best Limousin cross heifer to £2300, the same vendor also sold the top priced Limousin cross steer to £2100.
