Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale on Tuesday night, when 4106  sheep were forward comprising of 1488 prime lambs, 2062 store lambs and 556 cast sheep.

Topping the prime lambs at £197 were a pair of 70kg Texel lambs from Messrs Brannen, Scar Top, Penrith.

Topping at 363.4p/kg were a pen of 41 Beltex cross lambs which made £149 from Thompson Livestock, Penrith.

Another pen of seven 42kg Beltex cross lambs sold to make £148.50 (353.6op/kg), and a pen of ten 45kg lambs selling for £152 (337.80p/kg) all from Thompson Livestock. The consignment of 26 lambs from this home sold to average 43.5kg £148.88 (341.6p/kg).

Messrs Wynne, Derbyshire sold a 46kg lamb to make £153 selling to Field Fresh Trading.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Appleby sold a pair of 52kg lambs to make £150 which were bought by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

26 pens and 111 lambs sold between £130-£197.

Good meated fed lambs are consistently in short supply with buyers prepared to greatly reward  sellers who present lambs full of meat.

Cast sheep toped at £200 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Millar, Crookholm Farm, Canonbie.
