Topping the Blue Texel Sheep Society 'Blue Blinders' show and sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Saturday 24th September was a shearling gimmer from Henry Jewitt of the Sunnybank flock which sold for 4800gns.
This eye catching lady, a February 2021 born gimmer sired by an imported ram in the Sunnybank flock, is out of Boyo Diana who is a Whatmore Bentley sired dam. She won the female and supreme championship ticket at the pre-sale show and was successfully purchased by William Taylor & Son of Bamber Bridge, Preston, Lancs.
Heading up the ram prices at 2800gns was a lamb shown by GA & HM Francis of the Pistyll flock. Their lamb, a son of Cairnrock Fully Loaded and out of a homebred Pistyll ewe, won the 3rd prize rosette at the pre-sale judging. He was sold to James Tennant Ltd of Fraisthorpe, Bridlington, North Humberside.
Selling at 2200gns was the leading lamb ram from the Tonley pen of Mark Wattie. The February 2022 born entry by Whatmore E-male and from the dam Sunnybank Eye of the Tiger, was knocked down to join the Sunnybank flock of Henry Jewitt’s.
Ayrshire breeder David Alexander of the Millside flock received a 2000gn bid for one of his gimmer entries. The homebred March born gimmer, a daughter of Barallan Eagle and out of a Beili Blues sired dam line. She also travels east to Bridlington for James Tennant Ltd.
Also selling at the 2000gn mark was a lamb ram, Tonley Gerald, from Mark Wattie. This was a Sunnybank Exchange Rate sired lamb and carries the Joe’s Alvin breeding through his dams pedigree line. He sold to Messrs Paxton of Duns, Berwickshire.
Topping the shearling ram entries was Sunnybank Fabio from Henry Jewitt. Lifting the red rosette and reserve male championship award, this January born ram is a son of Whatmore Eric and is out of a Hackney bred mother by Joe’s Alvin. Fabio sold for 1600gns to Messrs Dodd of Tundergarth, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire.
