Broughton Mountaain Ewe Sale

On Tuesday 4^th October Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual sale of Mountain ewes within Broughton Auction Mart, which attracted an entry of 1800 ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs.

Fully warranted ewes saw a fantastic enquiry throughout the sale, with sheep travelling to every nation in the UK, resulting in an average £83.26 (+£8.52) and shearling gimmers to £106.46 (+£10.30). This represents a fabulous return for all vendors in the current economic climate.

For the second week running Mr Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall, Broughton, set a new centre record following up from his 10,000gns ram last week, by selling his Champion pen of 5 for £400 per head, to Mr J Prentice, Carmarthenshire.

Claiming the 1^st prize I the shearling gimmer class was Mr Glen Wilkinson, Brookfield Farm, Coniston, this classy pen of 5 sold for £320 each to Susan Rigg, Spanham Farm, Richmond.

Herdwick ewe lambs sold to £100 for the first prize pen from Messrs McKinney, Ellermire Farm, Kirkby In Furness, which sold to Messrs Jenkinson, Milom.

Swaledale ewes met a frantic demand, topping at £95 per head for the 1^st prize pen from Turner Hall, these sold at £95 each to Mr D Fearon, Workington.
