DEMAND FOR MILKERS REMAINS STRONG AT BORDERWAY
KIRTLEVALE TOPS WITH AWESOME APPLE
Demand for quality milkers remains strong at Borderway for the first dairy sale in the October sale series. There was another exceptional offering of recently calved cows and heifers with trade topping at £2,800 with 140 Holstein milkers averaging almost £2135.
North West Farmers sponsored the October sale with the top price going to Kirtlevale Duke Apple who was consigned by the Livingstone family from near Gretna. This super uddered heifer was sired by Montross Duke and bred from an Excellent 92 dam sired by Metallic. Another thirteen cows and heifers from this home sold to average almost £2130 with a daughter of All.Nure Secretariat selling for £2500.
Balcurvie Holsteins consigned a tremendous group of 23 robust heifers with super attractive udders and all producing oceans of milk and topped at £2750 to average just over £2300. Balcurvie Maui Tana was the high seller in this group she was sired by AltaMaui. This top quality group had a daughter of All.Nure Secretariat sell for £2700.
John Adamson owner of the Swaites herd sold a very milky group of heifers and topped at £2700 for a daughter of Horst Allard and was bred from an Ayrshire dam. This group of Holstein Ayrshire cross heifers averaged over £2400.
The cows topped at £2400 for Kibbleston Mogul Duchess who was consigned by John Craig and Son from Carneil Farm in Dunfermline. She was sired by Mogul and was giving 41kgs at over 5% butterfat.
The Wreaywood Holstein herd sold another quality group of cows and topped at £2350 for a third lactation cow Red & white cow sired by Mr Apples Armani.
A strong group of late lactation cows were forward from several to average £1230 and topped at £1800 for a third lactation cow due again in January and was consigned by Justin Hogarth.
A well bred and well grown group of bulling heifers were consigned by Richard Harrington from Birds Hill Farm and they topped at £1400 for Harhill Select Elizabeth.
