On Monday 3rd October 2022 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Primestock.
PRIME BULLS – Yet another good show of 124 prime bulls forward for selling sharper on the week. The best bull was a 918kg Limousin from Messrs Thompson, Townfoot, Penrith achieving £2327 to Bowland Foods, Preston. Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton sold 858kg to £2286 Purchased by Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax. Messrs Tewntyham also sold top British Blue cow to £2145 for an 805kg. Simmentals topped at £1982 for an £814kg from Messrs Goldie, Newbie Mains, Annan purchased by A & D Meats, Top overall price per kilo of 283.50 went to a Limousin cross from Messrs Watson Bothal Park, Morpeth and purchased by Brookwood Abattoir. Black and Whites peaked at £1604 for a 667kg Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins Farm, Lockerbie This same bull also achieved top price per kilo of 240.50 purchased by Bowland Foods Ltd.

PRIME CATTLE – A massive shortage of clean bullocks and heifers today with again only 44 forward seeing the trade flying for all well fleshed cattle. Nine Cattle sold for over £2000 to a days top of £2172 for an 806kg Charolais Cross steer purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle Messrs Kennedy, North Cowshaw, Lockerbie the same home also sold a 788kg to £2123 and a 785kg to £2107 both selling to Mr Eric Hall. Messrs Bowe, Bothal Park, Wigton solf a 748kg to £2090 purchased by Pioneer foods. British Blue Crosses to £1928 for 700kg from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle the same vendor achieved top price per kilo of 285.50p for 701kg to Steven Wilson Butchers, Corby Hill, Carlisle.
Heifers Topped at £2009 for 694kg Limousin Cross from Messrs Telford, Edenlin, Carlisle to Pioneer Foods, Messrs Barker, Little Broomhills, Carlisle sold a dairy bred 705kg British Blue Cross to £1751 and purchased by A & D Meats top overall price per kilo of the day was the aforementioned Limousin cross from Meessrs Telford, Edlin achieving 289.5ppk

DA Harrison, Hill House Farms run of outstanding cows topped at 729kg 266.5ppk £1942 for a Belgian Blue Cross purched by Owain Llyr. Messrs Duncan, Whitehall Farms run of Angus Cows Topped at 894kg 203.5ppk £1819 and 860kg 208.5 at £1793 Bought by Alan Jarvis and Messrs Roberts. Messrs Gwynne, Castlewill Farm Sold the top price Simmental cow for 809kg 216.5ppk at £1751 to Alan Jarvis. Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside sold a simmental cow for 794kg 219.5ppk £1742 to Sean McGimpsey. Quality this week was … in … with a sale average of £113.97 per head achieved. Leading the sale at £172 was Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall with a 53kg Texel lamb which sold to Messrs Skelton. Messrs Urwin, Hill House sold an amazing pen of Dutch Texel’s to lead per kilo at 345.2p for 42gks selling to Vivers Scotlamb Ltd. Mules sold to £119 for a pen of 20 from Messrs Nichol, Lawston. The whole sale of mule gimmers averaged £110.56

CAST EWES – On Monday 3rd October we held our weekly sale of all ewes and rams at Borderway. A larger show of 350 ewes being presented with 15 active accounts buying sheep. Meaty ewes easy to place while leaner sorts met resistance but still maintained a good trade. Topping the sale was a Texel ewe from TP Wigham, Hargill House selling for £205. Suffolks topped at £123 from C & R Sutherland, Canonbie. Mules topped at £108 for a good pen of 11 from Messrs Dixon, Whinneyhill. Hill ewes topped at £78 from JW Smith-Jackson, Mellridge.
Rams topped at £176 for a pure Charolais from JI Noble, Lambley bank.
