Lazonby Store Lamb Sale

On Thursday 6^TH October Harrison and Hetherington held its October show & sale of store lambs within Lazonby Market. Again, another large show of 2315 lambs were presented to a ringside of buyers ensuring lambs were keenly bid for. As the season is now getting later, a lot of long term lambs are coming forward. A fantastic average of £68 was achieved which is remarkable considering half the sale was hill based lambs. Before the sale the show took place, this year the job was undertaken by Barbara Teesdale who awarded champion to a pen of 15 from HL Whitefield & Son, Batey Shield going onto make £100. Reserve champion went to a pen of Mules from Mr Andrew Stainton, Middle farm who sold 30 to £84.50. Topping the sale however was a pen of Beltex lambs from Messrs Faulder who sold 13 to top at £120. Suffolks were met with a good trade with a top price coming to £91 for a pen of 12 from Mr G Hay, Plumpton. Texels topped at £118 from GR & SM Makepeace, Blad House. Swaledales were met with a nice trade with top price coming from J T Green, Hill Farm selling 12 for £61. Herdwicks topped at £53 from G C Hodgson, Ingledene, Penrith.
