Borderway Sale of Store Cattle, Weaners & Suckled Calves

STORE CATTLE – Yet another huge entry in excess of 1900 cattle forward at Borderway Mart’s weekly Wednesday sale.  The 652 store cattle forward sold remarkably well considering the amount of cattle available all around the country.  Topping the sale overall was a superb Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale, Gretna peaking at £1840.  Messrs Brough, Clappers, Wigton sold best Charolais to £1640. Charolais cross steers peaked at £1490 from Messrs Gillespie, High Stand, Carlisle and at the same money was a Limousin cross from Messrs Routledge, Brackenhill Rigg, Carlisle.  British Blues sold to £1440 from Messrs Studhome, Ashview, Wigton and finally Friesian’s to £1130 for a pen of five from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle.

SUCKLED CALVES – The second suckled calf sale of 2022 was on fire with an excellent entry of 271.

Mr Gary Bell, Haas Side Farm’s 16 Limousin x bullocks sold to average £1212.50 and topped at £1360, £1330(x2), £1310 and £1300 for 7 month old bullocks.  Messrs Cadzow, & Co, Duncrahill Farm, run of ¾ Limousin bullocks and heifers topped at £1280 for a Limousin x bullock.  Messrs Murray, The Throp run of ¾ Limousin bullocks and heifers topped at £1200 again for a Limousin bullock.  Messrs Furlong & Co, Ridley Farm, run of bullocks topped at £1140 for a pen of 5 Aberdeen Angus bullocks at 8 months old.  Messrs Robinson, Hawksteel Farm sold 2 Limousin x heifers for £1020.  Messrs Ivinson, Leahill sold a 6 month old Limousin x heifer for £1000.

WEANED CALVES – A good trade for all types of cattle in ring 4. Topping the heifer trade at £1600 was a Limousin from Ballcutchel Farm, Isle of Man. Topping the bull trade at £1340 was an outstanding British Blue bull from Messrs Haigh, Breconhill Farm. Topping the steer trade at £1170 was a Simmental from Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton House. Closely followed at £1100 by a pen of 3 Simmental steers from the same home.
