CHEESEHEAD TOPS AT CARNELL ESTATE DISPERSAL
Jersey breeders and milk producers from across the UK and Ireland made their way to Longhouse Farm on the famous Carnell Estate to attend the dispersal of the entire Jersey youngstock. The milking herd had been sold privately in January to a local Jersey breeder.
The sale comprised 45 in calf heifers that were due to calf in 2022 to the Angus, a following 45 heifers that had been running with the Angus from the end of August and a further 46 bulling heifers and heifer calves.
Sired by several leading Jersey sires including ABS Cheesehead, Sunset Canyon Virginian and Mac the in calf heifers meet some brisk bidding with online bidding once again playing an important role. 77% of the lots received online bids and 47% of the lots were won online with just over a third going for export to Ireland.
The sale topped at £1900 for a daughter of ABS Cheesehead that was due to calve in November to the Angus sire. All of the dams were Danish bred cows that had been imported from Denmark when the herd was originally established.
Our next sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 19th October and features 237 exceptional animals in the Border & Lakeland Club sale. This special sale includes 141 cows and heifers, in calf heifer, bulling and heifer calves from the Tallent herd.
