Kirkby Stephen OTM & Cast Cow Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their fortnightly sale of cast and OTM cattle when 60 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £2341.32 was a five and a half year old British Blue cross cow which weighed 872kg selling for 268.5p/kg from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

A Limousin cross cow also sold to 268.5p/kg for a 817kg cow grossing £2193.65 with a 791kg British Blue cross cow selling for 259.5p/kg and £2052.65 both from this home. The consignment of 10 cows from Terrys Farm sold to average 776kg 247.76p/kg and £1923.33.

Hereford cows sold to £1800 for a 921kg cow making 195.5p/kg from Messrs Reeve, High Plains Farm, Drybeck.

Cast bulls sold to £1965.13 for a 7 year old British Blue weighing 995kg and making 197.5p/kg from Messrs Cooper, Troughton Hall, Broughton in Furness.

Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange sold a 6 year old British Blue bull weighing 958kg to make £192.5p/kg and £1844.15.

Good quality well fleshed cows were the dearest seen, with 13 cows selling between 220-268p/kg.
