Kirkby Stephen Annual ‘Luke Fair’ Sale of Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual ‘Luke Fair’ sale of store cattle on Monday, where a catalogued entry of 525 cattle were on offer.

Topping the sale at £2015 was a 18 month old British Blue cross steer from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth, Great Asby Sold British Blue steers to make £1915, £1900, £1885, £1855, £1825, £1800 and £1745.

Messrs Maughan, Woodfoot, Crosby Ravensworth sold British Blue cross steers to make £1875.

Limousin cross steers sold to £1785 for a pair from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

Messrs Paul, Sawbridge Hall, Appleby also sold Limousin cross steers to £1785.

Messrs Taylor, Waterhouses sold Limousin cross steers to make £1775 and £1725 for a pair.

Heifers topped at £1875 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Taylor, Waterhouses, Asby, with this same home also selling Limousin cross heifers to make £1805, £1735, £1700 and £1685.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold a Limousin cross heifer to make £1775.

Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth sold British Blue cross heifers to make £1745, £1675 and £1655.

Trade for good quality of all sizes and strong fleshy cattle was a flying trade with several fresh buyers in attendance if which some had travelled some distance to the advantage of the quality of cattle on offer here at Kirkby Stephen.

Steers averaged £1305.41 (up £110.32 on the year)

Heifers averaged £1151.46.

41 active buyers were in attendance from West Lothian in the North and Leamington Spa in the South.
