Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

STORE CATTLE – Yet another good show of 450 Store cattle forward seeing trade firmer on the week as numbers begin to tighten again.  The very plainest still hard enough to cash.  Top overall was a superb British Blue cross steer from Messrs Holliday & Graham, Bolton Wood Lane, Wigton achieving £1800. Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton sold one of their Beef Shorthorns to £1680 and Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton to £1640 for a Charolais cross and Limousins crosses to £1510 from Messrs Weal, Birkshawhead, Lockerbie.

Heifers seen a day’s top of £1565 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Moffat, Thornby Villa, Wigton.  Limousin crosses peaked at £1520 twice firstly by Messrs Irving, Harper Hill, Carlisle and secondly by Messrs Story, Hilltop, Brampton.

WEANED CALVES – Another great trade achieved in Ring 4 for all classes of cattle.  Topping the bull section at £1010 was a Limousin consigned by Messrs Nixon, Hunters Hall.  This was closely followed by another outstanding Limousin bull selling at £990 this time from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields.  Two smashing British Blue bulls from Messrs Whitfield, Lowthian Gill sold for £950.  Topping the steers at £1110 was a Limousin from Messrs Gibson, Cocklet Hill.  Other Limousins this time from Messrs Caddy, The Crescent sold £1100 and £1090.  Topping the heifer section was yet another Limousin at £1180 from Messrs Maughan, Heatheridge followed closely by again a Limousin at £1040 from Messrs Martin Shillafield.  Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields sold another at £1030.
